Stay on the main road and you'll be just fine. Be aware of the many little offshoots of this road as they all connect to other little roads and if you start exploring haphazardly without a map or GPS it easy to forget which way you came and how to get back. ![]() Make sure to check out the ridge to the south once you get to the top of the road. Budget at the very least 3-4 hours to do the loop. Red Sandstone Road to Muddy Pass Road to Walcott and back to Vail via I-70:Įasy road, great views and beautiful country. Call ahead before relying on it for food. Piney Lake restaurant might even be open for lunch. From Piney Lake hike about an hour upstream to some cool waterfalls. Near the top when you get into the trees, stay to the right for the easy way to the very top, the left hand route is very steep and unfriendly.Įasy road to a beautiful lake. ![]() Pretty mild road but bumpy enough to keep things interesting. Easy to access directly from Vail Village. Road is a dead end but with great views of the surrounding mountain ranges and Mount of the Holy Cross. We had very little snow this year so things have been opening up quite early. **My quick disclaimer is I haven't been up there yet this year so don't know what snow conditions are present, if any. Here's a quick run down of my favorite areas, all of which require very little technical skill, so you don't have to worry about breaking your bike before your return trip: Our family spends a couple weeks up there every summer and the last couple years I've been doing some exploring on my bike and have really enjoyed it. Regarding rides around Vail there are quite a few really nice areas. It's not a super nice hotel but I've found the Roost Lodge in Vail usually has some of the least expensive rooms in the area Public parking lots are open to the public at all times and not closed off or reserved during rentals.Sylvan Lake is a really pretty area but not sure if an hour or so drive would be worth it. Additional parking is available at the Old Firehouse Community Center located directly across the street from Veterans’ Park and the old RTA Commuter Parking Lot located just west of Veterans’ Park on the south side of Lake Road. There are small public parking lots available in front of the Lake House and Folger Home. The gazebo is available for rent May through October.Īlong the western end of the park is the Avon Lake Boat Club offering small boat storage and the historic Lake Shore Cemetery. The park also features a small Gazebo that sits close to the Lake House and is available for rent and is great for small wedding ceremonies and wedding photos as well as, family, graduation, and school dance photos. The chains can be found in the main room of the facility. The facility comes with privacy chains that can be hooked up at the entrances of the wraparound porch to keep the porch private during your event. The historic Folger Home accommodates up to 48 guests with tables and chairs, has a small galley style kitchen with electric range, microwave and refrigerator, wraparound porch with rocking chairs, and fantastic Lake Erie views. The number of tables and chairs may vary. The facility currently has seating for up to 72 guests and 2 8’ tables that can be used for serving tables and/or gift tables. The Lake House accommodates up to 85 guests with tables and chairs, has a small warming kitchen with electric range, microwave and refrigerator, pulldown projection screen, patio with charcoal grill, and fantastic Lake Erie views. Both facilities are available for rent throughout the year and are great for wedding showers, baby showers, family reunions, meetings, and other private events. Veterans’ Memorial Park is home to both the Lake House and Folger Home. There is a boardwalk with park benches providing great views of Lake Erie and its’ spectacular sunsets along, with a number of picnic tables and charcoal grills great for family picnics. The park is on the shores of Lake Erie and offers grand views and wonderful access to the lake. Veterans’ Memorial Park is located at 32756 Lake Road, Avon Lake, Ohio 44012. ![]()
